Note:Due to interface bandwidth limitations, CFexpress card readers based on PCIe 3.0 ×1 and USB 3.1 Gen 2 reach their maximum bandwidth regardless of card capacity. As a result, further testing across different capacities was not conducted.
Approximate interface bandwidth limits are as follows:
USB 2.0 = 40 MB/s
USB 3.0 / USB 3.1 Gen 1 / USB 3.2 Gen 1 = 400 MB/s
USB 3.1 Gen 2 / USB 3.2 Gen 2 = 800 MB/s

Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question ? We are here to help.
Q: Your Gold CFA 4.0 is advertised to be so fast, is there any false labeling?
Yes, we ship all over the world. Shipping costs will apply, and will be added at checkout. We run discounts and promotions all year, so stay tuned for exclusive deals.
Q: Why is there no 256GB capacity available for the CFA 4.0 Gold Gen II?
A: This decision is based on current chip technology specifications and our product performance standards. To ensure that the entire CFA 4.0 Gold (2nd Gen) lineup fully meets the VPG800 high-performance certification requirements, we have not planned a 256GB capacity at this time.
The key reason is that with the latest process advancements, most new wafers are based on 128GB per die. A 256GB card would therefore be built with only two dies. Our real-world testing shows that a 256GB configuration delivers sustained write speeds of only around 500 MB/s, which does not meet the performance requirements for VPG800 certification.
Q: Which card reader is recommended for this CFA 4.0, and are other card readers on the market compatible?
A: A USB4 card reader can fully unleash the maximum performance of the memory card. However, since USB4 card readers are relatively expensive, we recommend a USB 3.2 card reader for users who are not particularly sensitive to speed, as it is sufficient for everyday use.
Most other card readers available on the market are compatible with this CFA 4.0 Gold card. That said, we are unable to test and guarantee compatibility across the wide range of third-party card readers. For this reason, we still recommend using our official, matching card reader for the best compatibility and performance.
Q: Will the Gold Gen II VPG800–certified memory card be faster than the Gold Gen1 VPG400 version?
A: From a technical specification perspective, the Gold (2nd Gen) memory card with VPG800 certification offers superior theoretical performance. This certification is based on the PCIe 4.0 standard and includes revised and optimized test criteria for read/write performance, garbage collection mechanisms, and latency, resulting in higher theoretical reliability compared with earlier standards such as VPG200 and VPG400.
However, since the hardware interface bandwidth of current Sony cameras is still limited to PCIe 3.0, these theoretical advantages may not be fully realized in real-world shooting scenarios. As a result, the actual in-camera performance of the two cards is very similar.
Q: How should I choose the right capacity? Should I buy 512GB or 1TB? How long can I actually record?
A: From a performance standpoint, the 1TB version offers noticeably higher sustained write performance because it uses twice the number of dies compared with the 512GB model.
From a capacity perspective, if your usage is mainly still photography or 1080p / 4K video recording, 256GB is generally sufficient. For users who shoot high-bitrate or intensive video, we recommend considering the 512GB or 1TB versions.
You can estimate your storage needs based on bitrate. For example, a 600 Mbps video stream generates about 75 MB of data per second, which means 1,000 seconds of recording will require approximately 75 GB of storage.
Q: Will your memory cards work with my camera? How is the compatibility?
A: Our memory cards support all shooting modes on all currently available Sony cameras, with no need to differentiate between camera models or versions.
As an executive board member of the CompactFlash Association (CFA), we have obtained official VPG800 certification for this product. This certification ensures full compliance with CFA standards, so compatibility is not a concern.
Q: What is the actual usable capacity displayed on the camera? And what capacity is shown when the card is connected to a computer?
A: Using the 512GB version as an example, differences in capacity display are caused by the use of binary (1 GB = 1024 MB) versus decimal (1 GB = 1000 MB) calculations.
Cameras and Windows systems use binary calculations, so the displayed capacity is approximately 476GB. macOS uses decimal calculations, so it displays the full 512GB.
Q:Can purchasing a memory card guarantee data recovery?
A: Sorry, we do not make such absolute guarantees. Although the overall failure rate of our memory cards is very low, we cannot guarantee that they will never encounter issues. Without being able to predict the exact cause of any potential problems, we cannot offer a 100% data recovery guarantee. However, if you do encounter such difficult issues, we will make every effort to attempt data recovery, and this service is provided free of charge.
Q: How is the product warranty handled?
A: CFexpress memory cards come with a lifetime warranty and have no write limit. Card readers come with a 1-year warranty. For qualit y issues within 30 days of the order, we will cover the round-trip shipping costs. After 30 days, shipping costs will be shared. Please note that issues caused by user actions such as disassembly, repair, bending, deformation, or water damage will void the warranty.
